Welcome to my blog! I am a Northern California based photographer. Inspired by the beauty I see in all that surrounds me, from the people I meet to the places I visit and all of the details in between, I make photographs intentionally and also spontaneously. Here you will find glimpses of current work, as well my personal work. This is the visual journal of my life as a photographer, professional and personal. What I post are my very favorite images of the people I am so lucky to have the opportunity to photograph, photos of things that inspire me in my day to day life, and in general photos that just make my heart happy. If you are looking for a specific type of work, you can sort my posts by choosing from the CATEGORIES section in the menu above. If you would like to see more of my work please contact me and in the meantime check out my website www.katiezaboy.com. I hope you enjoy yourself and stay a while... I would also love to get to know YOU better! Leave a comment, or befriend me on facebook or twitter - links at bottom of page. I would love to hear from you =) To stay as up to date as possible, subscribe using the RSS feed button above.

I just realized today it has been one year since we brought Cooper home! His first appearance on my camera & blog is here . I seriously love this lovey, snugly, somewhat obsessed with me, furry monster. Another great part about this time of year: Tomorrow is our 6th anniversary (mine and Chris’)! I still have to pinch myself when I realize each year has been the best one yet! I love growing and moving forward with someone as awesome as Chris… he even put’s up with my jealous, possessive furboyfriend Cooper… haha jk.. but seriously no touching allowed on Cooper’s watch! Yikes! But really who can deny this face??
Have a wonderful weekend! xo
-later day edit- PS I was just reading over the first post I ever did about Cooper here and we are STILL working on the lessons: Chew on This, Not Me & Rocks are Not Food….. except his chewing on me is now much softer but usually for a reason and his rock eating is actually rock chewing in order to get me to exchange the rock for a treat – smarter than the average bear this dog… (yes, he has trained me, DOH!)
This is a work in progress, but I finally have some film to share!! You might recall my previous Film post, I had purchased a Contax 645 (medium format film camera) and was testing it. The results are in … I am in love. I still have some adjusting to do, film & digital exposure have their own nuances – despite the basic concept being the same (photography is photography, however the medium you are applying it to has it’s own way of ‘recording’ the light). Another adjustment- my hands and brain are used to my digital camera body being an extension of me… my lovely Contax while very comfortable to hold is still a foreign appendage, but the only way to fix that is to shoot more (no problem!). And film takes a little longer to test as the processing is not instant. But it has taught me to be choosier in what I shoot (my digital capture has benefited from this – I find I’m shooting less frames yet getting more of what I want – yay!) and to remember to be patient. It also has made me value my photography even more… eye opening.
Below are a few of my test prints. These are straight out of the camera, no touch ups what-so-ever (ok, maybe I rotated them in PS ;). There are a few adjustments I need to work on to get my vision & style completely infused into the image (basic exposure and color balances) but I used RPL as my lab and LOVE them. They have a program where they will work with you personally to get your images processed with your specific needs and vision in mind (so cool).
I will tell you what I love about film- the soft, imperfection, the natural, slowed down, back to our roots feel of the whole process. Soft, lighty, slightly mysterious & dreamy happens to be my vision and film seems to be the way to put the cherry on top of that vision ;)
So these are totally random, I wanted to try indoor with natural light (boudoir), outdoor (horses & trees), and then i had a few exposures left before I could send in my order, so inside still life anyone? haha And the first image is of the proof prints I received with my negatives laid out on my new work table!

I photograph weddings for others and enjoy every last minute of it, I love being in the midst of a joyful, in love and well wishing group of people on the happiest of days. It’s truly the happiest and most rewarding job I can think of ever having. And until my very own brothers wedding I thought what I felt was equal to the guests of the weddings I photograph, I was pleasantly surprised to find what I thought couldn’t get any better, did.
What is a wedding… two souls in love with one another, vowing in front of their family and friends to spend their lives together, respecting, caring and being the best person they can be for each other. It’s also a joining of families, whether near or far, one family welcoming a new daughter, the other welcoming a new son. It’s a time for celebration and sometimes (as in this case) the perfect opportunity to gather your loved ones from all over the globe in one spot. That is exactly what Adam & Sarah did. Friends and family came from across the country, even across the globe to witness their union. Adam is my little brother and Sarah now my new sister and I couldn’t be happier that they found each other for she is sweet, kind and adores him and he is utterly in love…who wouldn’t want that for their little brother?
And Sarah’s family, I can’t even begin to describe their kindness. They welcomed us with big open hearts and made us feel at home, while being 3000 miles from our homes. I am so grateful to them and I am so happy that Adam has such a wonderful family he is now a part of.
Because this wedding is so near and dear to my heart, I posted a ton of images. I couldn’t help myself! It was an odd feeling to have taken the photographs AND experience the feeling of receiving photographs that are now a part of my family’s history… that I took. Haha it was somewhat surreal to be honest. This is my experience as the sister of the groom, trying really hard to not cry during the ceremony, as the sister whose heart soars to see my all of my siblings grown and together again after so much time apart on such a momentous occasion, as the sister excited to gain a new sister that fits like a glove into our silly group and the sister that got to make what will one day be family heirlooms for her own family.
Lucky me ♥
The wedding took place in beautiful Virginia, I definitely plan on going back soon… the history just oozes from the buildings and the beauty of the landscape takes your breath away. I hope you enjoy the images, I know I will for the rest of my days. xoxo
Adam & Sarah met at this karaoke bar in Old Town Alexandria Virginia, this was her only request of the day! LOVE HER for this shot! So much fun and such a great part of their love story! (if you are ever in Old Town Alexandria you must go here, it is a BLAST!)
And these last two photos just tickle me pink! They’re for our families… I’ll explain.
On the left is brother Chris (best man, twin brother to the groom Adam). During rehearsal the Father kept telling the boys “bow to ze alter!” when they walked in, cracking everyone up. The boys taking it seriously bowed energetically, the Father had to remind them they were bowing to the Lord, NOT their sensei, causing us to all fall out laughing. Soooo during the ceremony, Chris took it upon himself to bow like a proper English gentleman, causing me to giggle inappropriately in church ;)
On the right, the bride and groom just finished their first kiss and the Father is jokingly chastising them for taking too much liberty in their ‘church kiss’ … causing the entire crowd to giggle inappropriately in church. Yay, I’m not the only one ;)
Everyone involved in this wedding was amazing… I’ve never attended a church wedding with so much joyful laughter instigated by the Father. The flowers, the coordinator, the hair and make-up artists all out of this world kind and did a beautiful job! Oh and the reason I have no images past the ceremony is that they hired a reception photographer, so that I could enjoy that time as a guest, what a treat!!!
Sarah & Adam made a donation in the names of their guests to a foundation that is near and dear to Sarah’s family, Parkinson’s Disease Foundation of the National Capital Area. They were featured in the Washington Post as well!
Thank you so much for taking the time to read all of this and take in the images… I appreciate your time!

There’s nothing like driving through the Sierra’s on a two lane highway and coming upon authentic mountain towns with picture perfect scenery. This is one image (of many) from a recent trip we took to the mountains here in Northern California. I could do this every weekend and never run out of things to photograph.
Hope you all are having a wonderful holiday season!
